Karen Wright, CMT

Welcome to my practice.

I have been certified as massage therapist by the state of California since 1993.   I hold a bachelor’s degree in Biology, with an emphasis in Physiology, from the University of CA, Santa Cruz. Living a healthy and balanced life has been a passion of mine my entire adult life.  I bring to my practice technical skill, as well as a personal dedication to health for myself and others.  My intention in working with you is to allow your body, mind, and emotional disharmony to return to your natural state of ease and health. A session with me is likely to include an integrated blend of the modalities listed below.  I am committed to offering an integrated treatment that will tailor fit your individual needs and preferences.

Specialties Include:

Acupressure- This ancient Chinese technique involves the use of pressure on specific points along the body to treat tension and stress, and pain.  It is also used for general preventative health care.

Aromatherapy- This technique involves the use of essential oils during the massage. The oils are extracted from herbs and flowers, each oil has its own unique characteristics and benefits.

Deep Tissue Therapy- Deep tissue therapy seeks to improve the function of the body’s connective tissue and/or muscles.  More sustained and deeper pressure is used to penetrate the muscles.

Geriatric Massage- Geriatric massage doesn’t possess any unusual techniques, rather special consideration is emphasized to address the physiological changes commonly associated with aging; such as loss of skin elasticity and muscle mass, tendency to bruise easily, osteoporosis, and reduced range of motion.

Hot Stone Therapy- A deeply relaxing style that combines the penetrating effect of hot stones with soothing manual massage.

Myofascial Release- used to evaluate and treat restrictions in the body’s muscles and supportive connective tissues (fascia) by applying gentle traction, pressures and positioning. Bodies respond to these therapies by releasing tension that has been stored in the fascia, thus allowing more functional flexibility and mobility of the muscles, fascia and associated structures.

Ortho-Bionomy-  is a gentle, non-invasive, osteopathically-based form of body therapy which is highly effective in working with chronic stress, injuries and pains or problems associated with postural and structural imbalances. The practitioner uses gentle movements and positions of the body to facilitate the change of stress and pain pattern

Pregnancy Massage- Pregnancy Massage helps expecting mothers to relieve stresses that

result from the rapid and profound physical and mental changes that occur during pregnancy. It is designed to relieve aches in the back, neck, hips, legs and weight bearing joints. Postpartum massage helps restore the body to pre-pregnancy conditions and nurture the new mother.

Reflexology- The application of appropriate pressure to the leg and feet, to bring about beneficial physiological and psychological changes in the body.

Shiatsu- This bodywork technique uses thumb, finger and palm pressure to Classical Chinese acupuncture points, thus allowing more flow and harmony of energy through the body.

Sports Massage- Sports massage utilizes specific strokes and stretches to help obtain maximum performance and physical conditioning with less chance of injury or pain. It aims to provide this conditioning by increasing power, endurance and flexibility both before and after an event or work out. Recovery times are reduced with post-event massage therapy and performance increases of 20% have been reported.

Swedish Massage- Swedish massage involves manipulating superficial layers of the muscles to improve mental and physical health. Active or passive movement of the joints, and long fluid strokes are used to achieve maximum relaxation.   The benefits of Swedish massage therapy include increased blood circulation, mental and physical relaxation, decreased stress and muscle tension, and improved range of motion
